Why I came to Dean

I chose the consulting industry because it provides a great setting to gain business experience. When the time came to choose an employer, I maintained my mantra of “Where can I learn the most?” and “Where will I be able to make the greatest impact?”.  I realized not only will I be working with an extremely bright and hardworking group of people at Dean & Company, but I will also be learning from the firm’s senior management who have distinguished and varied backgrounds. This diversity in interest and expertise manifests to a fascinating range of work at Dean & Company.

My Experiences at Dean

Having been assigned to our private equity client, I was pleasantly surprised when my first few weeks at Dean & Company I was quickly engaged in the consulting process. Throughout the first month, my level of involvement in the deal-making process surprised me; I participated in international conference calls with “C-level” management of large corporations, conducted and managed a primary research survey, and even contributed to a one-on-one interview with the CEO of one of the largest commercial real estate companies in the world.

In reality, every project, manager, and client will be different so experiences will vary. But given the flat structure and lean model instituted by Dean & Company, it is more likely than not that a starting analyst be bestowed with a significant amount of responsibility right from the start.  It has been this high level of trust and responsibility that I have found to be the most exciting aspect of Dean & Company to date.

My Life in DC

Having lived in Ithaca, NY the past few years, I was sure that I wanted to live in a warmer setting. I wanted to live in an area that not only offered the metropolitan culture, diversity, and energy, but also the rural scenery, tranquility, and adventure. Washington D.C. is naturally a good match based on my criteria. The city itself is filled with energy; whether you are looking for food, entertainment, culture, or nightlife, D.C. offers something for everyone. The surrounding areas also offer an abundance of fun – e.g., just a few hours drive west, you can find peace in the mountains of Appalachia. I can confidently say that “the district” has not disappointed me in the time I have resided here.
