Joining Dean

I joined Dean & Company in 1996 right after completing a Ph.D. in physical chemistry at MIT. While all my work in science had more than prepared me for the analytical work in consulting, I had no business experience when I joined Dean & Company.

My Experiences at Dean

My experience at Dean & Company taught me much more than the mechanics of the business world; Dean & Company really taught me how to hone in on the most critical elements of the business problem, and then apply the appropriate analysis to quantify the results. While this sounds straight forward, really being able to bring the relevant data to bear in a way that provides a clear path forward for the client is a difficult skill to acquire, and Dean & Company constantly challenged me to take responsibility for larger and larger portions of the problem solving process.

While at Dean & Company, I was exposed to a variety of industries and types of business problems. My work included several engagements with telecommunications and Internet companies, as well as extensive work in corporate valuation, particularly in partnership with Lindsay Goldberg.

What I'm Up to Now

I am now applying the skills I learned at Dean & Company to a new venture. I left DCO in May of 2000 to help create a hedge fund located in Boston. Here I have been continuing to apply the analytical approach of honing in analysis of key issues to help determine equities selection for the fund.
