interview process

our culture

In our typical interview process, an individual meets with three to five people from the firm, including at least one partner. The format for all interviews revolves around a dialogue about a case "problem" which is outlined by the interviewer. Successful candidates demonstrate the ability to think in a logical and well-structured manner about the case issues and communicate insights and options clearly. For some "best practices" on how to approach the case interview process, see the presentation from our on-campus workshop, "How to Crack a Case".

Case discussions should not be viewed as "tests" with right or wrong answers but rather as an opportunity to demonstrate logical thinking, clear communication, and creative insight generation. While our experience has shown these case interviews to be an effective method for us to gain insight on important aspects of a candidate's capabilities, academic achievement, leadership roles, and relevant work experience are also considered in the decision to extend offers.

Candidates who receive offers are invited to visit our Washington, D.C. office. These visits generally occur during the winter and are designed to give offerees a chance to become acquainted both with our people and our work. They also provide opportunities to learn a little about the Washington D. C. area, for those who have no prior experience here. A mixture of one-on-one discussions, presentations on firm strategy and recent assignments, and group social gatherings enable offerees to develop a strong sense of the firm's work and culture.
